Giving, receipts and taxes
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Open Harvest is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 82-4419306). Gifts are deductible to the extent allowed by law, and you will get an emailed receipt immediately plus one annual summary each January.
How much of my gift goes to programs?
89 cents of every dollar goes directly to rescuing and delivering food. The rest covers fundraising and admin. Our audited financials and Form 990 are available on request.
How does $1 rescue three meals?
Because the food itself is donated, your money pays for fuel, drivers, refrigeration and sorting. Averaged over a year, that costs about 33 cents per meal.
Can I change or cancel my monthly gift?
Any time, in two clicks from the donor portal link in every receipt, or just call us and a real person will do it for you.
Can I donate food instead?
Businesses can schedule free pickups. For individuals, we prefer money, because our wholesale buying turns $10 into far more food than $10 of groceries.
